Last weekend I opened up the shop doors to celebrate two new builds rolling out this month, check them out on the bicycles page. The guys at Tenspeed Hero also installed some amazing photographs taken over the last few years, which will be on display in the front on the shop. Thanks to all who stopped by, look forward to the next one!
I recently got back from a trip to help a friend and fellow cyclist move out to LA. We outfitted his car with a rack, packed up our bikes and hit the road. Stopping in Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and finally in California to ride our bikes in true continental fashion, each day doing between 50 and 80 miles per day. Below is a photo journal with some descriptions. Enjoy!
Crazy sunset that night in Nebraska.
Sunrise ride the next morning, headed out of Lincoln, NE.
Gravel! Nebraska is famous for these roads. Both hands on the bars!
Next morning ride out of Laramie, WY. We followed the Rapha Continental route to the Medicine Bow Mountains. A 25 mile false flat out of Laramie with amazing views of valleys, cows, barren landscape, and majestic mountains, 75 mile ride total.
View atop the Barber Lake climb.
After the ride in Laramie, we set off to Utah, to catch up with the Tour of Utah, stage through Ogden & Eden.
View from our place that evening, pondering how much energy we would have the next day to climb up to the KOM stage.
Climbing up…..the peloton was about 20 miles behind us. Total elevation gain from Eden was about 3,500′. Amazing views, and experience watching the tour roll through.
You may recognize a rider or two. Thats Jens Voigt! So cool watching them roll by a few feet away. After the peloton came over the KOM, we made a quick decent, packed up the car, and headed for Vegas. Woke up the next morning to 105 degrees outside, decided to skip the ride, and head for LA early.
Last couple of days spent doing morning rides up PCH through Malibu and some climbs up Topanga Canyon, along with a few afternoon surf sessions.
The Tenspeed hero crew organized a visit from Ben, Ryan, and Jeremy from the Rapha mobile cycling club who pulled their RV up to the shop last weekend on their way back to Portland. Unfortunately the planned shop ride was rained out, but we managed to make the best of the taco food truck, two kegs of beer, and 1980′s action flicks. The Rapha crew display some of their awesome continental bikes, new gear (those shoes are off the hook), and the latest publication from Rouleur. Ben and Ryan stayed in town long enough for a TDF stage viewing down the street at La Colombe the next day, and a group ride with the Tenspeed crew on Sunday. Thanks for the visit guys, and have a safe trip back to Portland.
